For around ten years, eGate has been developing the measurement and monitoring of airborne particle concentrations on construction sites. During this time, reliable measurement of site air quality has become possible. The key challenge has been that compliance of breathable air with occupational exposure limits could only be assessed retrospectively, once the full results for the working day or measurement period were available.
That is now changing significantly
A newly released eGate feature brings predictive monitoring of particle exposure into day-to-day site management. The system calculates the time-weighted average (TWA) from the start of the working day and identifies developing situations in which the projected eight-hour average may exceed a binding occupational exposure limit.
Early indications and alerts are available as early as 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, giving site teams time to assess the situation and take appropriate action before the working day ends.
From measurement to proactive, data-driven site management
Previously, reliable measurement data showed the particle concentrations to which workers had been exposed. The new feature also helps teams understand how exposure is developing and make timely decisions.
Instead of discovering a potential limit exceedance only after the fact, site teams can respond while there is still time to take corrective action.
This is data-driven site management in practice: measurement data becomes a real-time operational picture that supports decisions and helps teams take action at the right time.
A decade of development, with a new capability
eGate has spent around a decade building its expertise in measuring and monitoring airborne particle concentrations on construction sites. The reliability of its measurement technology has been assessed in multiple correlation studies.
Developed in response to customer requests, the new feature addresses a practical need. Construction teams need not only to know what air quality was like, but also to receive timely information about emerging exposure risks while they can still influence the outcome.
eGate is moving construction-site air quality monitoring from retrospective assessment towards proactive occupational safety management. By combining measurement, analysis and timely alerts, site teams can make better-informed decisions, manage risks and continuously improve their operations.
